9th Floor. Valerio Architects Office. 2 pm.

Nag-convene ang mga officers ng kumpanya para sa monthly Management
Committee meeting. Ginagawa nila ito every month to make sure na lahat
ng mga managers and department heads ay nakakasunod sa mga deliverables
nila. Lahat ng kumpanya maliit at malaki ay laging merong monthly
meeting to keep the company as competitive as possible.

Pero iba ang ManComm nila ngayon. Because for the first time in five
years ay aattend si Mr. Valerio ang Chairman ng kumpanya, major
shareholder at founder ng Valerio Architects Corporation. Kabado ang
ibang mga officers since alam nila kung gaano kahigpit itong si Mr.
Valerio. All smiles naman si Jorge Magyabong na tsismis na ipo-promote
for the position of President since nag-retire na ang dating Presidente
ng kumpanya. Isasabay din ni Jorge ang pag-announce ng promotion ni
Beth as assistant manager.

Dumating si Mr. Valerio at umupo sa ulunan ng mahabang conference room.
Nagsimula ang meeting. Maraming mga projects ang ini-announce ng mga
officers. Kasama na dito ang mga bagong projects sa ibang bansa na
halos lahat ay dumaan kay Paul. Buong pagmamalaki na pinagmagaling ni
Jorge ang grupo niya kung saan 55% ng mga projects ay nagawa nilang
i-close at gawan ng design.

Nung matapos si Jorge sa presentation niya ay umupo na ito at hinintay
ang sasabihin ni Mr. Valerio. Tinitingnan ni Mr. Valerio ang mga
contracts na ibinigay sa kanya. Maya-maya'y kumunot ang noo nito at
tiningnan si Jorge.

"Jorge, how come we didn't close the rest of the contracts?"

"We didn't had enough time sir, my people are already overworked. We're
luck to close more than half of the contracts because of the dedication
of my team."

"Ahuh." sabi ni Mr. Valerio na hindi inaalis ang pagkakatitig sa kanya.
"Then how do you explain this?" Itinuro ni Mr. Valerio ang date ng mga
kontrata kung saan natapos on time ang mga drafts nito pero hindi na
nai-process dahil walang pirma ni Jorge.

"Oh that." sabi ni Jorge na biglang pinagpawisan ng malamig. "It
must've slipped past me sir. You see we're so busy in closing the other
accounts."

"Your secretary received the documents for finalization weeks before
the deadline." sabi ni Mr. Valerio. "And you didn't act on it?"

Nangatog ang baba ni Jorge. Alam niya kung paano magalit si Mr. Valerio
lalo na kapag nahuhuli nito ang mga employees niya na pumapalpak sa
trabaho.

"I expect an answer Jorge." may bigat na ang boses ni Mr. Valerio.

"I'm sorry sir. I have no excuse." sabi ni Jorge pagkatapos ay tinungo
ang ulo. Tahimik lahat ng officers lalo na si Beth na first time
maka-attend ng ManComm.

Matagal na tinitigan ni Mr. Valerio si Jorge. Pagkatapos ay sumenyas na
sa next presentor.

"Let's move on." sabi nito na nakatingin pa rin kay Jorge. Tatlong
presentors pa ang nag-present bago tuluyang na-conclude ang meeting
pero bago mag-conclude ay mayroong special announcement si Mr. Valerio.

"You know that our President Mr. Wilson Lim Ng just retired last month.
So I am looking for a possible replacement among my officers."

"However." patuloy nito. "I need someone who has the passion and the
dedication to pull the company to the next level. We have many
competitors and the only way to survive is to be one step ahead of the
competition. That means that all contracts and deadlines must be signed
and met on time. No excuses!"

"Because of that, I want to introduce the next President of Valerio
Architects." Pagkatapos ay tumingin si Mr. Valerio sa pintuan na
bumukas.

Napanganga lahat ng tao sa conference room ng pumasok ang bagong
Presidente nila.

"Paul?" bigkas ni Beth na gulat na gulat. "Paul you're--"

"My son, if that's what you mean?" sabad ni Mr. Valerio.

"Your son!" bigkas ni Jorge.

"Surprised Jorge?"

Natahimik si Jorge. Ganun din si Beth dahil hindi niya inakalang si
Paul na minaniobra niya ang pagkakatanggal sa opisina ang anak ng
Chairman ng kumpanya at bagong President nila ngayon.

"Thank you dad." sabi ni Paul sa ama. "I can take it from here."

"Make me proud." sabi ni Mr. Valerio sa anak at kinamayan ito.
Pagkatapos ay lumabas na ng conference room ang matanda at naiwan si
Paul at ang mga officers niya sa loob.

Tapos na ang meeting at nasa loob ng office of the president si Paul at
nire-review ang mga bagong projects ng nag-buzzer ang secretary niya.

"Sir Paul, Mr. Magyabong is here."

"Send him in." sabi ni Paul.

Pumasok si Jorge sa kuwarto ni Paul. Tungo ang ulo nito hindi katulad
nung huling beses silang mag-usap na mayabang ito. Tiningnan mabuti ni
Paul si Jorge.

"Sit down."

Umupo si Jorge na tungo pa rin ang ulo at naghihintay sa sasabihin ni
Paul. Hindi nagsalita si Paul at nakatitig lang kay Jorge.

Hindi nakatiis si Jorge kaya't ito na ang nagsalita. "Paul, malaki ang
kasalanan ko. I admit. But if you don't want me in the company. I can
resign anytime."

"I don't want your job Jorge. I want your commitment." sabi ni Paul.
"You're a good architect. My father told me that you were once very
dedicated. But when you were promoted, everything changed. I want a
winner in my team Jorge and I am giving everybody a chance to prove it.
You want to stay in the team you have to show me what you're really
worth."

Tahimik si Jorge habang nagsasalita si Paul. Nang matapos na si Paul ay
tinanong niya ito.

"Can I expect you to give your best. Your very best to the company?"

"100 percent boss." sabi ni Jorge. "I'll prove it to you."

"That's what I'd like to hear." pagkatapos ay inabot ni Paul ang kamay
niya at nagkamayan silang dalawa.
